My Handy Carport

This is my carport. It's great! It protects my car from the heat of the sun, the rain and the snow. I rarely have to scrape my windows in the winter time.

I'm very grateful for my carport; however, there is one drawback. Every year one pesky and persistent bird returns and builds a nest in the corner of the carport. This winter, we used some polyurethane foam, which gets really hard, to block the opening. But when the spring came so did that freaky bird and wouldn't you know, she pecked at the foam until there was an opening big enough for her to squeeze her way in there. Can you see the foam in this picture?

Why would we care about a bird in the carport? This is why!!!

I'm pretty sure she's aiming for our car because she doesn't want us parking in her space anymore. Next year we're trying duct tape....

That bird is showing you whose boss. I enjoy a crafty creature now and then. As long as they aren't in MY carport or MY backyard. The crafty creature we got earlier was some kind of burrowing fuzzy thing. I think Harold outwitted it, but we'll see.

lol, we have the same prob... we just knock the bird's nest down when they build them... OR you could do what my neighbor did and put up cardboard over your car so that the bird can stay but you dont get pooped on... hard to explain... i can send you a pic if you want!

If I had a BB gun, I'd bring it down this weekend and we'd have a go at the bird. BUT, I don't so perhaps we could just wash your car; EVERYDAY, by the looks of it.

UGH! We have these cheep plastic roll up bamboo blinds that hang on the outside of our sliding doors out back. Ever since we've had them, 4 years now? - since we had the backyard done and made it such an inviting habitat for all things beautiful - some birds (I think they are finches) have tried to build a nest, in the exact same spot, right smack in the middle of the doorway, on the top ridge of those blinds, maybe an inch wide. It wasn’t going to work! The porch step gets covered with sticks and strings and fluffy stuff, AND flowers from our Snow in Summer plants! Nothing they brought stayed on this little ridge. And I never understood why they kept coming back year after year to go through the same frustration. Until this year...They are evolving, adapting - something - a smarter, better bird has arrived and is actually making it work. And I feel awful every time I do it but I knock down the little balancing pieces every morning. Thanks for showing the pictures of your car - makes me feel a little better for being an ogre of destruction.

We have squatters too, out in the barn shed. Year after year. We tried boarding up the openings but they just peck it away. There must be about a ton of bird poop up there. I am curious, but not curious enough to stick my head up there.
Our other squatters are yellow jackets/wasps. We knock their litte paper houses down, spray them with poison and it only kills the ones that were in the direct line of fire. And then the next day some have built another house.
Birds, Ants, and yellow jackets--there must be a vacancy sign out somewhere that I have not notices. But not for long. There will be no room at the Inn on June 6.

I know you hate cats, but maybe you should get a carport watch cat. You could build him a little Watch tower and everything now that you have such great DIY Skillz!

First Plumbing then building!

We once found an earwig in a box of Q-tips, which I immediately threw away. My husband and I had a laugh over it - we didn't realize earwigs were so cunning.
