The Sleeping Habits of An Eight Year Old

One night last week, Sam was watching TV and all of a sudden he asked me to take pictures of him, because he was so cozy. I wasn't sure how that warranted a photo shoot but I got the camera out and the posing ensued. Note to reader: He is NOT asleep in this picture.

Or this one.

Or this one... Obviously.
Later that night, around 10pm, Matt came downstairs and said, "Julie, You have got to go look at your son." I said, "Just a minute." Because I was about the important business of programming the upstairs phone to match the downstairs phone so that they both had all the same numbers in them. Matt said, "He may not have a minute." So I went upstairs to see this:

He is, in fact, asleep in this picture. And yes, his head is inside his pillowcase. What he was doing before he fell asleep, we don't know. But of course we had to take pictures. And I found that once I started snapping the pics I couldn't stop.

He was a bit startled when Matt pulled the pillow off his head. But he never woke up.

Not awake.

Not awake.

Not awake.

Not awake.

Still, not awake.

Not awake.

Nuh-uh. Still not awake. He never woke up. And the really funny part, that I didn't get a picture of, was Matt and I cracking up. It was so funny. It's always funny to mess with a sleeping kid who is too out of it to wake up. He didn't remember a thing in the morning, and he didn't believe me until he saw the pictures. And watching him look at the pictures was funny too.

I love being a mom.

Super Fast And Easy Sticky Buns

So, here's what you do. Preheat oven to 375.Then, you take some buiscuit dough, I used Great Value, because I'm cheap. Lay the buisuits in a pan. In hind sight, I would have gotten larger ones, let's face it, sticky buns are better the bigger they are.

Sprinkle one cup of brown sugar over the top of the buiscuits.

Pour heavy cream over the dough and brown sugar.

Bake for 20 minutes. The friend who gave me the recipe said she had put some cinnimon on it too. I chose not to. Warm, Gooey, Yummy!

House Guests

We had a darling little house guest, and her brother come to stay for 10 days.

It was so much fun for our baby hungry family to have her around. And here's a cute picture of her bro.
On the morning I put this cute little outfit on her Sam walked by, saw her, gasped and said, "Oh, all she needs is a little purse." I nearly died laughing.

She is such a good baby. She slept through the night most of the time and she rarely cried. She even tried to fold the laundry for me but I told her no because after all she is the guest.

She's been gone for three days now and we are still catching whiffs of her sweet smell through out the house. We miss her.

The Festivities started on Thursday night when Sam required a hair cut to serve his costume purposes. Plus, he was getting pretty shaggy. It was fooshnicken cold outside so I snapped three quick pics and then busted back inside and commenced to take pictures through the blinds from the warmth of the house.

They were cold and not very amused.

Sam chose to be Aang from the cartoon Avatar: The Last Air Bender. Aang IS the last air bender so we thought this costume was really fitting for our little Farty Marty. Plus, Sam totally looks like this character. Compare and Contrast:

On Friday afternoon Sam's school had their annual costume parade. It got off to a really late start. And the most irritating woman ever sat next to me. Well, she actually sat on me. I immediately moved my chair a good two feet away from her and she still managed to touch me fifty or so more times. Then when the parade started she stood up and stepped all the way forward and lean on the back of the lady in front of her. She blocked my view, unless I stood up too and blocked the view of the guy next to me. And the poor lady she was leaning on was bugged! But a good time was had by all. A lot of really creative costumes showed up this year. And the kids were happy to show them off. Yeah, that's her in the right of my shot.

On Friday night we went to a rockin' party for Matt's sister Jeanna who's birthday is on Halloween. It was fun and we got to see several family members from out of town. On Saturday, Halloween, we went to the annual Trunk or Treat at Grandma Alger's ward. We saw several familiar faces there.

At the party a guy was dressed in the scariest costume ever. Creepy guy was just sitting on the stage when Sam noticed him. Sam went up to the stage and sat about five feet from Creepy guy, then slowly moved closer until he was right next to him. I think Sam was having his own little personal fear factor. I had to take a picture so that when the nightmares stop we can bust out this picture and remind him. Sam was a little reluctant to let Creepy guy put his arm around him for the picture, thus the lean.

My last post about tomatoes. I Promise. (For this year anyway.)

Well, most of them ripened up. So I made black bean and corn salsa. I canned it. It is delicious. For the recipe and to see how good it looks visit my friend, Emily's Warm Kitchen Blog. She has some other tasty recipes there too.

R.I.P. LaMar

After a year and 8 months with our family, LaMar has swum on to fishy heaven (at least we think that is where the toilet flushes to).
Dear LaMar,
Your bowl was always dirty and we didn't feed you often enough (which may have led to your demise), but we loved you. You were a cheerful and friendly (except to your reflection) little fish with a fierce stature.
We'll miss you.
Your Family,
Julie, Sam and Matt
