My little garden is already producing...

No, no, not a cabbage patch. This little cutie was just hanging out on my tiny lawn that I cut with scissors. Looks like it's time for a trim.

We planted the strawberries two years ago and are happy to find them producing this year. We are looking forward to them filling in their whole side of the garden. Also, returning this year on it's own is the cilantro. I used to HATE cilantro. I thought it tasted like soap. Now I LOVE it. That just tells me that I shouldn't write things off just because I didn't like it the first time I tried it. I also think that some things taste better with some ingredients than they do with others.
This year we also planted 4 tomato plants, and 3 jalapeno plants, 1 Serrano chili pepper plant and 1 pablano pepper plant.
Last year we planted onions and got nothing but this year one giant green onion sprouted before we even started gardening.
So if the onions keep coming we will have all the fixings for homemade fresh salsa, by the end of July. Except for the garlic I like to add. And I'm not counting on anymore onions, so we'll have to buy those too.
What is your favorite thing to grow in the garden?
Oh, and does anyone know how to get the potato bugs to stop munching on my strawberries?

Hi Julie! How the heck are ya? Are you on fb? ANyhoo, thanks for commenting on my blog. Do you happen to know if this is true or not: the more you water your hot peppers, the more mild they are and the less water you give them, the hotter they are??? We, too are doing a salsa garden for the first time. Let me know what you think...
p.s. how's that adorable Sam?

I have garlic in my garden, but no other salsa ingredients. Maybe we need to get together to make some! I like growing pumpkin - even though they take up so much space. It's really fun having our own home grown pumpkins for Halloween.

Potato Bugs as in rolly pollies? I did a little search for you - this is one thing I found "Pillbugs Sowbugs- People often think that Pillbugs or Sowbugs are eating the live plants, however pillbugs are for the most part scavengers feeding on dead or decaying plants and materials. Some species may eat live plants, but they are usually not the problem they are blamed for in the garden. Remove dead or decaying plant matter and leafs from the area, and if needed you can trap them with a half of a cantaloupe that's placed upside down where pill bugs are a problem."

I like to plant everything; flowers, veges, herbs. I did not get to the strawberries soon enough in the season and thus have no strawberries for my strawberry pot - and now (like a week ago) after looking all over for them, a nursery person told me they were hard to come by this season. Hmmmm. Anyway, I planted herbs in the strawberry pot instead. It's fun to look at but they grow fast and I don't really use them enough and I'm feeling like I need to cut them back but then that is wasting the good herbs but then they're not getting used anyway... I'm weird.

Kathy, did you plant basil? If so you can make PESTO!!! I LOVE THAT STUFF!! If you need a good recipe for it I've got one.

Kathy says - I did plant basil - and pesto would be a great thing to make so send the recipe. But - my family does not eat that. They don't eat anything that grows out of the ground - not even corn! It is very sad. I need to get in the habit of giving my harvest away. I like the idea of fresh veges but even then, what ripens on the vine often rots on the vine. Was that a gasp heard round the world?

I love your tiny garden. I have one this year too but it doesn't have scrumptious looking strawberries.

We just picked our first mess of peas. It filled a whole large tupperware bowl. The kids just loved shelling them. Who knew?
Maybe they just wanted to be with Grandma.

We have a retaining wall in our backyard. It has never been functional, but I dream of planting some serious strawberry plants back there, just like back on Hathaway in the old days. Yum!
