Book Review - Miracles of Santo Fico
Miracles of Santo Fico is so good! I loved this book. There is great character developement and I totally felt like I knew where each was coming from. It's about a small Tuscan town in which many are living with regret and wishing their lives were different. Some are even looking for "a sign". The plot is excellent and the story moves along at a good rate. I was so happy with the resolution and the end of the book. I liked this book so much that I am going to recommend it to my book club. I really enjoyed this book too. It's as poignant as To Kill a Mockingbird, yet at times as laugh-out-loud funny as P.G. Wodehouse's best. In fact, the book's characters and their interplay is very much akin to Wodehouse, though not quite as heavy-handed. I keep it around and read portions of it when I need a humanity fix. I love how the locals nearly hijack the tourists getting them to go to the fresco depiciting the miracles of St. Thomas. I love stories that are about whole communities. I think that's why I enjoy Maeve Binchy's books too. Have you ever read "Chocolat" by Joanne Harris? That is also a wonderful book about a town that is transformed.
